“Church planters under 30 whom I’m meeting don’t seem interested in planting churches that will become megachurches. Rather, they want reproducible small churches–which, incidentally, matches what’s happening in the business world. Leadership guru Warren Bennis’ The Future of Leadership speaks of elephants and fleas: The elephants get all the attention, but the new ideas mostly come from fleas.”

It’s a little scary to me to think that the patterns of church follow the patterns of business. I wonder if that’s because the way people work is so integrated into their daily lives now. What was it like in Jesus’ day? I wonder if synagogue followed the patterns of business? My guess is no.

Interesting thoughts Mike…
I wouldn’t say though that the patterns of the church follow the patterns of business, but like the quote said – in this case with church planters — it ‘incidentally matches’ what is happening in business. I would have to say though that with this generation of people — overwhelming they favor smaller churches.
Probably for many reasons, but one is because they dont want their church to be ‘business-like’, but simply a more organic community of Jesus-followers.
